Physical Education
Through PE at Belmont Junior School, children will develop their physical health whilst strengthening skills in communication, collaboration and their ability to perform to a high standard in a range of sports and disciplines. Children will be encouraged to evaluate their work and recognise their own success as well as taking part in teambuilding activities and games. Our aim is to teach children the importance of a healthy lifestyle through encouraging and celebrating physical activity, using parents and staff as role models and promoting the positive effects of keeping fit.
At Belmont, we follow the Val Sabin Schemes of Work which provide progressive and sequenced lesson plans and activities in Gymnastics, Dance, Games and Athletics. They will acquire the knowledge to:
Develop a range of skills
understand why and how to warm up and cool down safely
use running, jumping, throwing and catching in isolation and in combination
develop flexibility, strength, technique control and balance
understand the basic principles of different games
experience difference roles in games
Apply and develop a range of skills in competitive games
communication and collaboration whilst competing with each other
to make actions and sequences of movement
play competitive games, modified where appropriate and apply basic principles suitable for attacking and defending
decision making within games
What is the PE and sports premium?
The PE and sport premium is funding provided by the Government to help primary schools improve the quality of PE and sport activities they offer.
Schools receive PE and sport premium funding based on the number of pupils in years 1 to 6.
Using the PE and sport premium
Schools must use the funding to make sustainable improvements to the quality of PE and sport they offer. Schools cannot use it for teachers’ planning and preparation time nor must we use it to teach the minimum requirements of the National Curriculum.
To make these improvements sustainable, we spend money on:
- equipment that can be used now and into the future
- children's engagement with sport for fun and in competition
- teacher continuing professional development to improve the teaching of PE
