Learning for Life

We strive to offer a broad and balanced curriculum that meets all National Curriculum requirements and goes further to enrich, enthuse and excite children in their learning.

We take children's personal development and their integration into a society where they are active and contributing members as fundamental to our role as educators of the next generation of leaders and members of society. In order to achieve this, we enrich the children's lives beyond the National Curriculum through a wide range of activities, projects and approaches including the following:

  • developing independence and resilience through: a whole school 'growth mindset' approach; residential visits for all year groups; sailing lessons for Y6
  • child-led fundraising and enterprise activities
  • Make a Difference Challenge empowering children to make a difference in their communities
  • gardening lessons
  • keeping chickens and employing 'chicken keepers'

We take a creative and topic-based approach and make links between all subjects to increase children's knowledge and vocabulary.  You can see our curriculum maps for each year group for more detail:

We also offer all children in school the opportunity to attend an overnight residential experience in every year group – from 1 night away in Year 3 to a full week away in Years 5 & 6.  We work alongside Moat Mount Outdoor Centre, Pendarren House and the Outward Bound Trust to organise these residential visits which offer a unique opportunity to develop children’s independence, resilience, social and physical skills.
